Knauf Recycle Recycling in
Commercial Projects

Major commercial developments benefit from the discipline that plasterboard recycling brings to waste management. Sites are cleaner and safer movements of waste from workplace to collection point are minimised, and costs are more controllable.

There is a clear health and safety benefit in reducing the amount of waste that has to be manhandled. It also simplifies the removal of waste from the workplace. Because of the quantities of waste involved in large projects, big skips are used at central collection points. Waste solutions require careful planning so that the movement of waste material and the removal of filled skips dovetails with other essential site activity.

Because of the economies of scale, big projects have much to gain from advances in plasterboard recycling – for example, the use of chippers means containers are filled more efficiently, so fewer skips are required. New design detailing, in door jambs, for example, could significantly reduce waste at source.
Knauf Recycle Case Study: Garrett Anderson Centre
The Garrett Anderson Centre is a new £26m treatment centre being constructed for the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust by Kier Eastern. Once complete this will be a four storey, 8000 m2 development linked to the existing hospital, containing a range of medical departments and care facilities.

Collection systems to suit every site
Knauf Recycle Bulk bags
1m3 bulk waste bags are used to collect plasterboard waste from house building sites. They can be placed anywhere within range of a lorry-mounted crane for easy removal.
Knauf Recycle Wheelie bins (660 litre)
660 litre wheelie bins are used in large or high rise buildings and can be moved close to the installers for convenience. They are taken to a central point for loading into a mobile compaction unit.
Knauf Recycle Skips (6–14 yards)
5–11m3 skips are used on medium to large sites where centralised waste collection is a convenient solution.
Knauf Recycle Ro-Ro skips (35–40 yards)
27–31m3 roll-on, roll-off containers are used on major sites that generate large waste streams and where storage space is not at a premium.
